JACK RABBIT

about

The rabbit has become an ever morphing metaphor for me throughout my life.

As a kid, we all loved the shape shifting, wise cracking Bugs Bunny…but I took inspiration in drawing and writing my own anthropomorphic animal comics from the pages of Stan Sakai’s rabbit samurai epic Usagi Yojimbo.

In college, the rabbit represented my self deprecating conscience who roasted me the morning after poor decisions were made.

As I’ve gotten older, at times the rabbit has been that endlessly elusive unattainable perfect happiness…sometimes something weirder, something darker…sometimes fear, sometimes the future.

Whatever the rabbit has come to mean, I have embraced the chase. My latest connection to my long eared bouncy buddies came from a rhyming riddle I randomly wrote in an effort to describe how I was feeling in a moment where I was losing my grip on reality -

“What if the JackRabbit jumped the track,
And never came back?”

Growing up in Pittsburgh and visiting Kennywood park in the summer, no matter how many times I rode the Jack Rabbit rollercoaster, that sensation of the car “jumping the track” on the double dip of those old wooden rails never became less of a thrill. What if. The Jack Rabbit. Jumped the track. And never came back.
The concept is my way of recognizing how regularly things go off the rails…and madly laughing at the idea of there being no rails at all. We all feel a bit crazy at times, especially these days, but sometimes crazy is fun. Life is a rollercoaster with no safety bars, what can you do if the train is headed for the stars?

This song is about flipping the fear of not having control into a superpower - letting go and shifting from insane to invincible.

Bump up the volume, buckle up, and bounce with the JACK RABBIT 🐰

lyrics

JACK RABBIT

What if the Jack Rabbit jumped the track…
And never came back
How come when I ask who ya favorite rapper is…
Ya never say Max
I make these songs for myself cuz I love my music, that’s forever playback
What I feel is scorchin! No Wheel of Fortune…I don’t gotta “say Jack” (Sajak)

Using mental telepathy
Now I’m in Jeopardy
I think my demons have gotten the best of me
You’re thinking less of me, more of this stress on me
Cookin up crazy concoctions my recipe
Cannot be copied
Your plan is so sloppy
And I’m calculated so can you get off me
So godly don’t think there’s a man who can stop me
I’ve fallen, kept climbing, I’ll stand at the top see
I know I can make it
Control, I can fake it
Pretend I’m ok, take my soul strip it naked
The mold that I’m breakin is also stability
But that’s the thrill you see
What is the ill in me
I can’t explain it but love this ability
Hard to maintain all this bounce and agility
I wouldn’t be this way if I had Phil with me
Numb to the pain doesn’t change that it’s killing the—

Villain but also the hero
Keep it 💯 I’m also a zero
Believe in myself but I fall to my fear tho
I’m all in yo ear 'til I all disappear Yo
I’m off of the rails rollercoaster unchained
No I can’t explain think I’ve broken my brain
I speak about pleasure while soakin in pain
Know I’ve got it together I’m goin insane —

Still flowin the flame like a dragon sneeze
Doubting himself and somehow the guys braggin he’s
Out of his mind don’t think he ever had it please
Open your vision to sights that the rabbit sees
Like looking through a kaleidoscope telescope
Dropping the needle like vinyl to hell with dope
Focused on yes there’s no trying to tell him nope
Holding him back gonna have to use hella rope --

It’s like containing Tasmanian devil
Taking this shit to the zaniest level
Over the top but I’m under the influence
Disrupting citizens craziest rebel

Kennywood never imagined they’d see
The Jack Rabbit jump off the track and go free
Off into space, let’s get lost in this place
That we never were seeking but happen to be…..Said -
Kennywood never imagined they’d see
The Jack Rabbit jump off the track and go free
Off into space, let’s get lost in this place
That we never were seeking but happen to be
